La Ciotat and Grenoble, France, May 02, 2007 – INNOVA CARD, a leading provider of secure hardware and software solutions for trusted terminals and TRANGO Systems, a leading provider of embedded processor virtualization IP, have teamed up to provide the first PCI-PED ready single-core solution that eases non-secure open OS integration.

The system that combines INNOVA CARD’s well-known USIP® chip and TRANGO’s secure virtualization software was recently assessed by an independent PCI-PED laboratory. The evaluation report concludes that the USIP® and TRANGO Hypervisor combination inherently assists Vendors in meeting many of the security requirements for PCI-PED approval.

This innovative solution responds to the constraints the payment terminal market imposes: It meets time-to-market and cost pressures while being at least as secure and ready for certification as dual-core or dual-chip solutions.

This joint solution enables a secure application such as the PIN entry process to run in its own execution environment, concurrently and fully isolated from a non-secure OS (e.g. Linux, Windows® CE). It protects against physical and software attacks, secures the access to peripherals and memories, and guarantees the critical code’s integrity.

Based on the MIPS32® 4KSd™ core, the USIP® plus TRANGO secure virtualization solution is fully designed for security. USIP® integrates leading-edge hardware security mechanisms such as a MMU, cryptographic features, physical countermeasures and a secure boot loader. The TRANGO Hypervisor provides multiple Virtual Processors, which simultaneously and securely run multiple, diverse, OSs and applications. USIP® and the TRANGO Hypervisor enables higher security levels than a dual-core or dual-chip solution by scaling to more than two execution environments.
